Lanthanum carbonate
Indications/Uses
Used in the control of hyperphosphatemia in chronic renal failure patients on haemodialysis or continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD).
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult, including elderly (>65 yr) Control of serum phosphate level Starting dose: 750 mg. Maintenance dose: 1,500-3,000 mg. Max: 3,750 mg/day.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Take w/ or immediately after meals. Chew thoroughly before swallowing. Do not swallow whole.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Acute peptic ulcer, ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease or bowel obstruction; hepatic impairment, renal insufficiency. Long-term use (>2 yr).
Adverse Reactions
Abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea, flatulence, nausea & vomiting.
Drug Interactions
Chloroquine, hydroxychloroquine, ketoconazole; tetracycline, doxycycline, floxacins.
