Indications/Uses
Fe overload in patient ≥1 yr w/ thalassaemia major.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Neutropenia & agranulocytosis. Pregnancy & lactation.
Special Precautions
Monitor neutrophil count wkly. Renal or hepatic impairment; liver fibrosis. Immunocompromised patients. Discontinue therapy if serum ferritin is <500 mcg/L.
Adverse Reactions
Reddish/brown urine, nausea, abdominal pain, vomiting, arthralgia, increased liver enzymes, neutropenia, increased appetite, diarrhea, agranulocytosis.
Drug Interactions
Trivalent cation products eg, Al-based antacids; vit C.
