Pseudoephedrine HCl
Indications/Uses
Symptomatic relief of common cold eg, sneezing & nasal congestion/stuffiness.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Childn 2-5 yr 0.8 mL 3 times daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to other sympathomimetics (eg, ephedrine, phenylpropanolamine HCl, phenylephrine). Patients w/ severe HTN, & receiving antidepressant therapy eg, MAOIs.
Special Precautions
Do not exceed the recommended dosage. Hypertensive patients or those who are potentially predisposed to HTN or stroke, eg, overwt or geriatric patients. Consult a physician if symptoms persist w/in 3 days. Discontinue use in case of insomnia, palpitation or headache. Glaucoma, prostate hypertrophy, hyperthyroidism, urine retention, heart dysfunction, & DM. Renal & hepatic impairment. Not to be used in pregnant & lactating women. Not to be used for childn <2 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Metabolism dysfunction, headache, insomnia, excitation, tremor, tachycardia, arrhythmia, dry mouth, palpitation, urinary obstruction.
Drug Interactions
May cause hypertensive crisis w/ antidepressant type MAOIs.
