Per unit dose vial (UDV) Ipratropium Br 0.52 mg, salbutamol sulphate 3.01 mg
Indications/Uses
Management of reversible bronchospasm associated w/ obstructive pulmonary diseases & acute asthma attack in patients who require more than a single bronchodilator.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Acute attack 1 unit dose vial, may be increased to 2 unit dose vial in severe cases. Maintenance: 1 unit dose vial 3-4 times daily.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to atropine, its derivatives or to any component of Combivent. Hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy or tachyarrhythmia.
Special Precautions
Hypersensitivity. Discontinue immediately if paradoxical bronchospasm occurs. Avoid contact w/ the eyes. Patients predisposed to glaucoma, insufficiently controlled DM, recent MI, severe organic heart or vascular disorders, hyperthyroidism, phaeochromocytoma, risk of narrow-angle glaucoma, prostatic hypertrophy or bladder-neck obstruction. Patients w/ underlying severe heart disease eg, ischaemic heart disease, arrhythmia or severe heart failure. Monitor serum K levels. Cystic fibrosis. Acute, rapidly worsening dyspnoea. Avoid prolonged use. Hepatic or renal insufficiency. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Headache, throat irritation, cough, dry mouth, GI motility disorders (eg, constipation, diarrhea & vomiting), nausea & dizziness.
Drug Interactions
Chronic co-administration of Combivent w/ other anticholinergic drugs. Increased side effects w/ xanthine derivatives, β-adrenergics & anticholinergics. Increased hypokalemia w/ digoxin, xanthine derivatives, glucocorticosteroids & diuretics. Reduced bronchodilator effect w/ β-blockers. Enhanced β-adrenergic effects by MAOIs or TCAs. Increased CV effects w/ halothane, trichloroethylene & enflurane.
