Indications/Uses
Treatment of traveller's diarrhoea not associated w/ fever, bloody diarrhoea, ≥8 unformed stools in the previous 24 hr, occult blood or leucocytes in the stool. Shorten duration of non-invasive strains of E. coli-associated diarrhoea.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to rifaximin, rifamycin (eg rifampicin or rifabutin).
Special Precautions
Not for the treatment of Campylobacter-, Salmonella-, & Shigella-associated traveller's diarrhoea. Do not readminister if symptoms do not resolve after 3 days. Clostridum difficile-associated diarrhoea. Pseudomembranous colitis. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn <18 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Dizziness, headache, GI disturbances, pyrexia.
