Ambroxol HCl
Indications/Uses
Add-on mucolytic in treating resp tract infections accompanied by bronchial hypersecretion.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Acute resp disorders & for initial treatment of chronic conditions Adult & adolescent >12 yr 10 mL bd for 14 days. Initial treatment Childn 6-12 yr 5 mL bd-tds; 2-6 yr 2.5 mL tds; 1-2 yr 2.5 mL bd. Doses can be halved beyond 14 days.
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Stomach or intestinal ulcer. Concomitant use w/ other antitussive medicines.
Special Precautions
Reports of hypersensitivity, anaphylactic & severe skin reactions. Discontinue use in case of symptoms or signs of progressive skin rash; worsened acute resp symptoms. Patients w/ stomach problems (eg, ulcers); difficulty producing sputum; asthma. Sugar intolerance. Contains methylparaben & propylparaben. Severe kidney or liver disease. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn <1 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Dysgeusia; hypoaesthesia of mouth or throat; nausea.
Drug Interactions
Limited elimination of secretions w/ codeine or other antitussive medicines.
