Loteprednol etabonate
Indications/Uses
Steroid-responsive inflammatory conditions of the palpebral & bulbar conjunctiva, cornea & anterior segment of the globe eg, allergic conjunctivitis, acne rosacea, superficial punctate keratitis, herpes zoster keratitis, iritis, cyclitis, selected infective conjunctivitis. Post-op inflammation after ocular surgery.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Steroid-responsive disease treatment 1-2 drops into conjunctival sac of the affected eye(s) qds. Post-op inflammation 1-2 drops into conjunctival sac of the affected eye(s) qds, 24 hr after surgery continued up to 2 wk.
Contraindications
Viral diseases of the cornea & conjunctiva eg, epithelial herpes simplex keratitis, vaccinia & varicella; mycobacterial infections & fungal diseases of the eye.
Special Precautions
May mask or enhance existing infections. History of herpes simplex. May delay healing & increase bleb formation incidence after cataract surgery. Monitor IOP. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Elevated IOP; abnormal vision or blurring, burning on instillation, chemosis, discharge, dry eyes, epiphora, foreign body sensation, itching, inj & photophobia. Headache, rhinitis & pharyngitis.
