Indications/Uses
Viral infections due to HSV (including herpes keratitis, herpes labialis & genital herpes) & varicella zoster virus (zoster & chickenpox).
Dosage/Direction for Use
Herpes simplex 200 mg 5 times daily 4 hrly, omitting the night dose for 5 days. Varicella zoster 800 mg 5 times daily 4 hrly, omitting the night dose for 7 days.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: May be taken w/ meals to reduce GI discomfort.
Special Precautions
Renal impairment.
Adverse Reactions
Skin rash, GI effects, haematological & encephalopathic changes.
Drug Interactions
Nephrotoxic drugs. Probenecid.
