Iloprost
Indications/Uses
Primary or secondary pulmonary HTN due to connective tissue disease or drug induction, in moderate or severe stages of the disease. Moderate or severe secondary pulmonary HTN due to chronic pulmonary thromboembolism where surgery is not possible.
Dosage/Direction for Use
6-9 inhalations/day each lasting about 5-10 min.
Contraindications
Risk of hemorrhage (eg, active peptic ulcers, injuries), suspected pulmonary congestion, blocked or narrow vein, stroke w/in last 3 mth; heart problems eg, heart attack w/in last 6 mth, severe arrhythmias, angina, CHD, untreated heart disease, valvular defects. Pregnancy, lactation. Childn <18 yr.
Special Precautions
Pulmonary infections, severe asthma, low systemic BP (<85 mmHg). Severe renal & hepatic failure. May impair the ability to drive or operate machinery.
Adverse Reactions
Flushing, increased coughing, hypotension, headache, jaw spasm, hemorrhage.
Drug Interactions
Antihypertensives, anticoagulants, corticosteroids.
