Ramipril
Indications/Uses
HTN & CHF. Prophylaxis of CV events in high-risk patients (MI, stroke). Delayed nephropathy occurring in non-diabetic & diabetic patients w/ HTN.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult HTN Initially 2.5 mg once daily. Maintenance: 2.5-5 mg daily as a single dose may increase up to 10 mg daily, if needed. Heart failure Initially 1.25 mg once daily. Max: 10 mg daily. Prophylaxis of CV events in high-risk patients Initially 2.5 mg once daily for 1 wk, then increased if tolerated to 5 mg once daily for 3 wk. Maintenance: 10 mg daily. Delayed nephropathy occurring in non-diabetic & diabetic patients w/ HTN Initially 1.25 mg once daily. Max: 5 mg daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to ACE inhibitors. Patients w/ angioedema history from ACE inhibitors, bilateral renal artery stenosis or a single kidney w/ unilateral renal artery stenosis. Aortic stenosis or outflow tract obstruction. Pregnancy & lactation.
Special Precautions
Cough; renal impairment; hyperkalaemia; angioneurotic oedema of face, lips, tongue, glottis & larynx.
Adverse Reactions
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, dizziness, fatigue, headache, abdominal pain, cough. Rarely, symptomatic hypotension. Anaphylactic reactions, Stevens-Johnson, thrombocytopenia.
Drug Interactions
K-sparing agent, lithium, NSAIDs, ciclosporin, digoxin, capsaicin, antidiabetic agent or insulin.
