Indications/Uses
Painful muscle spasm associated w/ static & functional disorders of the spine (cervical & lumbar syndromes), following surgery eg, herniated intervertebral disc or OA of the hip, & spasticity due to neurological disorders eg, multiple sclerosis. Chronic myelopathy, CVA, cerebral palsy.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Painful muscle spasm 2 mg tid. Spasticity due to neurological disorder Initially 6 mg in 3 divided doses. Increase stepwise by 2-4 mg at ½-wkly or wkly intervals. (For optimum therapeutic response, 12-24 mg in 3-4 equally spaced doses). Max: 36 mg/day. Renal/hepatic insufficiency Initially 2 mg once daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Special Precautions
Renal insufficiency or severely impaired renal function. May affect ability to drive or operate machinery.
Adverse Reactions
Drowsiness, fatigue, dizziness, dry mouth, nausea, GI disturbances, slight reduction in BP. Muscle weakness & insomnia, hypotension & bradycardia.
Drug Interactions
May cause hypotension & bradycardia when taken w/ antihypertensives including diuretics. May enhance sedative action w/ alcohol or other sedatives.
