Sultamicillin (ampicillin & sulbactam). Per tab Sultamicillin 375 mg. Per 1.5 g vial Ampicillin Na 1,000 mg, sulbactam Na 500 mg. Per 3 g vial Ampicillin Na 2,000 mg, sulbactam Na 1,000 mg
Indications/Uses
URTI, lower resp tract infection (sinusitis, otitis media, tonsillitis, pneumonia & bronchitis), UTI & pyelonephritis; skin & soft tissue, & gonococcal infections.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Tab Adult & childn >30 kg 375-750 mg bid. Childn <30 kg 50 mg/kg/day in 2 divided doses. Uncomplicated gonorrhea 6 tab (2.25 g) + probenecid 1 g. IV/IM Adult 1.5-3 g/day 6-8 hrly. Childn 150 mg/kg/day 6-8 hrly.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to penicillins.
Special Precautions
Superinfection, overgrowth of nonsusceptible organism. Check periodically for renal, hepatic & haematopoietic functions.
Adverse Reactions
GI disturbance, diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, pseudomembranous colitis, rash, headache, dizziness, fatigue & anaphylactoid reactions.
Drug Interactions
Plasma blood levels increased & prolonged by probenecid.
