The use of quetiapine extended release in bipolar disorder has been also associated with extrapyramidal side effects (~4%), ie, akathisia, dystonia, hypertonia, tremors.
Other less common adverse effects in quetiapine-treated subjects were; mild increase in serum prolactin level, increases in fasting glucose levels, and increased cholesterol and triglyceride level.
Quetiapine may rarely induce orthostatic hypotension associated with dizziness, tachycardia and, in some patients, syncope, especially during the initial dose-titration period, probably reflecting its α1-adrenergic antagonist properties.
