Desogestrel 0.15 mg, ethinylestradiol 0.02 mg
Indications/Uses
OC.
Dosage/Direction for Use
1 tab daily for 21 days starting on 1st day of period, followed by 7 tab-free days. Start next course on day 8 after the 7-day break.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Liver function disorders, Dubin-Johnson & Rotor syndrome. Previous or existing CV & cerebrovascular lesions, thromboembolic diseases, hepatic tumours, mammary or endometrial carcinoma, endometrial hyperplasia, lipid metabolism disorders, severe HTN, severe DM, porphyria, undiagnosed vag bleeding, otosclerosis, idiopathic jaundice, severe pruritus of pregnancy, herpes gestationis. Pregnancy.
Special Precautions
Cardiac insufficiency, renal injury, HTN, previous or existing epilepsy & migraine, DM, varicosity, phlebitis, multiple sclerosis, chorea minor, latent tetany, benign uterine tumour, endometriosis or mastopathia. Family history of juvenile thromboembolic diseases or blood coagulation disorders.
Adverse Reactions
Intermenstrual bleeding, change in vag discharge, vag infections (eg, candidiasis), breast tension, nausea, vomiting, cholelithiasis, cholestatic jaundice, thrombosis, HTN, chloasma, erythema nodosum, rash, problems w/ wearing contact lenses, headache, migraine, mood changes, fluid retention, decreased glucose tolerance, changes in body wt.
Drug Interactions
Ampicillin, chloramphenicol, neomycin, penicillin V, sulfonamides, tetracyclines, dihydroergotamine, tranquilizers, anticoagulants (coumarin or indandione derivatives), TCAs, maprotiline, oral antidiabetics, insulin, bromocriptine, hepatotoxic drugs.
