Nimesulide
Indications/Uses
For short-term treatment of OA pain (not >15 days).
Dosage/Direction for Use
100 mg bid.
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to ASA, other NSAIDs. History of hepatotoxic reactions to nimesulide. Concomitant exposure to other potentially hepatotoxic substances. Alcoholism, drug addiction, GI ulcer or hemorrhage, bleeding disorders. Asthma, hepatic impairment. Severe coagulation disorders, heart failure, renal impairment. Patients w/ fever &/or flu-like symptoms. Allergic-type reactions to sulfonamides. 3rd trimester of pregnancy, lactation. Childn <12 yr.
Special Precautions
History of hemorrhages, upper GIT diseases, history of peptic ulceration, ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease, renal failure, reduced heart function, HTN, vision disorders. Appropriate clinical monitoring on hepatic function is advisable, should not be used w/ other analgesics. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Pyrosis, nausea, gastralgia, erythematous or urticarioid skin rashes; rarely headache, dizziness, drowsiness, oliguria, edema, melena, petechiae, purpura, thrombocytopenia. SJS, Lyell's syndrome, anaphylactic reactions.
Drug Interactions
Anticoagulants or platelet aggregation inhibitors, furosemide, fenofibrate, salicylic acid, valproic acid, tolbutamide, lithium, MTX, cyclosporines.
