Memantine HCl
Indications/Uses
Moderate to severe dementia of the Alzheimer type.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Initially 5 mg once daily. Recommended target dosage: 20 mg/day. May be increased in 5-mg increments to 10 mg/day (5 mg bid); 15 mg/day (5 & 10 mg as separate doses), & 20 mg/day (10 mg bid). Min recommended interval between dose increases is 1 wk.
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Special Precautions
Seizure disorder, conditions that increase urinary pH, hepatic impairment, severe renal impairment, recent MI, uncompensated CHF, uncontrolled HTN.
Adverse Reactions
Constipation, dizziness, headache, HTN, somnolence. Anxiety, hallucinations, confusion, fatigue, abnormal gait, hypertonia, vomiting, fungal infections, cystitis, thromboembolism, increased libido. Psychotic reactions & pancreatitis.
