Indications/Uses
Listed in Dosage.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Epilepsy Adult Initially 100-200 mg once or bid. Maintenance: 0.8-1.2 g daily in 2-4 divided doses. Up to 1.6 g daily may be necessary. Childn 10-20 mg/kg daily in 2-3 divided doses, ≤1 yr 100-200 mg daily & in proportion according to age. Trigeminal neuralgia 100 mg bid. Maintenance: 400-800 mg daily in 2-4 divided doses.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Avoid grapefruit juice.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. AV block. History of bone marrow depression or acute intermittent porphyria.
Special Precautions
Pregnancy, lactation; blood disorders, liver & kidney diseases, mixed seizure disorders. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Dizziness, headache, drowsiness; dry mouth, nausea, vomiting, anorexia, blurred vision.
Drug Interactions
INH, erythromycin, fluoxetine, fluvoxamine, viloxazine, other antiepileptics, opioid analgesics.
