Isosorbide dinitrate
Indications/Uses
Treatment & prevention of angina pectoris, coronary insufficiency.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Maintenance: 1-4 tab 6 hrly. Treatment: ½ to 1 tab 6 hrly.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach: Take 30 min before meals.
Contraindications
Severe anemia; marked hypotension; head trauma, cerebral hemorrhage, increased intracranial pressure; acute MI. Avoid sildenafil, tadalafil & vardenafil.
Special Precautions
Closed-angle glaucoma. May develop tolerance & cross-tolerance to other nitrates & nitrites.
Adverse Reactions
Headache; flushing, dizziness; palpitations; orthostatic hypotension, tachycardia; vertigo; confusion; weakness.
Drug Interactions
Hypotensive effect enhanced by alcohol, β-blockers, antihypertensives, TCAs, narcotics, sildenafil, tadalafil, vardenafil. May potentiate effects of antihistamines, anticholinergics. Antagonises pressor action of sympathomimetics.
