Human blood coagulation factor IX
Indications/Uses
Treatment & prophylaxis of bleeding episodes caused by congenital or acquired factor IX deficiency (hemophilia B, acquired factor IX deficiency).
Dosage/Direction for Use
Dosage & duration of therapy depend on severity of the factor IX deficiency & on the location of bleeding. 1 IU/kg body wt raises the plasma factor IX activity by 0.8% of normal activity.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) &/or hyperfibrinolysis.
Special Precautions
Hypersensitivity eg, hives, urticaria, tightness of the chest, wheezing, hypotension & anaphylaxis (discontinue). In case of shock, the current medical standards for treatment should be observed.
Adverse Reactions
Hypersensitivity or allergic reactions (angioedema, burning at the infusion site, chills, flushing, urticaria & hives).
