Cephalexin monohydrate
Indications/Uses
Infection of resp tract, ENT, skin & soft tissue, GUT, bone & joint.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 2-3 g daily in divided doses bid to qid. May be increased up to 1-1.5 g tid to qid for severe infection. Childn 25-50 mg/kg daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: May be taken w/ meals to reduce GI discomfort.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins.
Special Precautions
Penicillin sensitivity; renal impairment.
Adverse Reactions
GI disturbances, allergic reactions, eosinophilia, angioedema, anaphylaxis, neutropenia, superinfection.
Drug Interactions
Plasma level & toxicity increased by probenecid. Efficacy inhibited by bacteriostatic antibiotics.
