Amoxicillin trihydrate
Indications/Uses
Infection of resp tract, GIT, skin & soft tissue infections, UTI, gonorrhoea, endocarditis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 250-500 mg tid. Max: 6 g/day. Childn ≤10 yr 125 mg tid. Severe infections Double dosage.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: May be taken w/ meals for better absorption & to reduce GI discomfort.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to penicillins & cephalosporins.
Special Precautions
Renal impairment; infectious mononucleosis.
Adverse Reactions
Allergic reactions; GI disturbances; maculopapular rash, urticaria; occasionally, pseudomembranous colitis.
Drug Interactions
Excretion delayed by probenecid. May reduce efficacy of OC.
