Advanced prostatic carcinoma in which suppression of testosterone effects is indicated: Initial treatment in combination w/ LHRH agonist; as adjunctive therapy in patients already receiving LHRH agonist; in surgically castrated patients; in the treatment of patients non-responsive or intolerant to other forms of hormonal manipulation. For the management, in combination w/ LHRH agonists, of locally confined B2-C2 (T2b-T4) prostate carcinoma as initial therapy, bulky primary tumours confined to prostate (stage B2 or T2b) or extending beyond the cap (stage C or T3-T4), w/ or w/o pelvic node involvement.
Dosage/Direction for Use
For male patients only. Adult 250 mg 8 hrly. Initially treatment w/ LHRH agonist for management of locally confined prostatic carcinoma Flutamide administration should start at least 3 days before LHRH agonist administration. Administration of flutamide & LHRH agonist should start 8 wk before RT course for total of about 16 wk.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hepatic impairment.
Special Precautions
Periodic LFTs required. Periodic sperm count determination may be considered w/ long-term treatment. Cardiac disease. Sexually active patients should use additional barrier contraception eg, condom. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery.
