Fe sucrose
Indications/Uses
Parenteral treatment of Fe deficiency.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & elderly 5-10 mL 2-3 times/wk. Max: 3 times wkly. Childn 0.15 mL/kg body wt 2 or 3 times/wk. To be given IV by drip infusion or slow inj.
Contraindications
Anaemia not caused by Fe deficiency; Fe overload or disturbances in Fe utilization.
Special Precautions
Do not inj IM. Bronchial asthma, low Fe-binding capacity &/or folic acid deficiency. Serious hepatic dysfunction, acute infection, history of allergy or chronic infection. Hypotension if administered rapidly. Pregnancy.
Adverse Reactions
Metallic taste, headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, hypotension, elevated liver enzymes, cramps/leg cramps, chest pain, dizziness, dyspnea, pneumonia, cough, pruritus.
Drug Interactions
Avoid concomitant administration w/ oral Fe prep.
