Clarithromycin
Indications/Uses
Lower & upper resp tract, soft tissue, skin & skin structure infections. Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) infection. H. pylori infection. Acute otitis media. Odontogenic infection.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 250 mg bid. Severe infections 500 mg bid. MAC infection 500-1,000 mg bid. H. pylori infection 500 mg bid to tid.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to macrolides. Patients receiving terfenadine, pimozide or cisapride.
Special Precautions
Impaired hepatic & renal function.
Adverse Reactions
Nausea, dyspepsia, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, headache, rash, alteration of smell w/ taste perversion.
Drug Interactions
Theophylline, carbamazepine, warfarin, digoxin, terfenadine & ritonavir.
