Cloxacillin (Cap: Na)
Indications/Uses
Infections due to Staph resistant to benzylpenicillin; mixed Strep infections when Staph are penicillin-resistant; gm +ve & -ve infections sensitive to cloxacillin.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Cap 1-2 cap. Dry syr Adult 10-20 mL. Childn 5-10 mL. Inj Adult 250-500 mg. To be taken 6 hrly.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach: Take 1 hr before or 2 hr after meals.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to penicillins.
Special Precautions
Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins. Jaundiced neonates. Renal impairment. Avoid subconjunctival inj or use in eye drops.
Adverse Reactions
Allergic reactions, glossitis, stomatitis, black 'hairy' tongue, blood disorders, anaphylaxis.
Drug Interactions
Probenecid impairs renal excretion. Decreases anticoagulant effect.
