Indications/Uses
Infections caused by susceptible organisms: Resp tract, UTI, skin & soft tissue, bone & joint.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Cap Adult & childn >20 kg 250-500 mg 6 hrly. Inj Adult 250-500 mg by IM 4-6 hrly or 250-500 mg 6 hrly for 3-4 min IV bolus or 250-500 mg by IV infusion 4-6 hrly for 30-40 min. Childn 2-10 yr ½ of adult dose, <2 yr ¼ of adult dose. Syr Childn 50-100 mg/kg/day divided dose 6 hrly. Max dose: 4 g/day.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach: Take 1 hr before meals.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to penicillins & cephalosporins.
Special Precautions
Hypersensitivity to penicillins & cephalosporins. Renal impairment. Patients w/ Na control.
Adverse Reactions
Allergic reaction, GI disturbances, glossitis, stomatitis, black 'hairy' tongue, blood disorders, anaphylaxis.
Drug Interactions
Probenecid, aminoglycosides, chloramphenicol, tetracyclines. Decreases anticoagulant effect.
