Atorvastatin Ca

Indications/Uses

Treatment of dyslipidemia & heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia. Primary & secondary prevention of CV disease. Reduce the risk of fatal CHD & non-fatal MI, stroke, angina pectoris.

Dosage/Direction for Use

10-80 mg once daily. Starting & maintenance dose individualized according to baseline LDL-cholesterol levels, goal of therapy & patient response.

Administration

May be taken with or without food: Avoid excessive consumption (>1 L/day) of grapefruit juice.

Contraindications

Liver disease, unexplained & persistent elevation in LFTs, skeletal muscle disease. Pregnancy & lactation.

Special Precautions

Regularly perform LFT. Monitor CPK levels. History of liver disease. Avoid alcohol consumption.

Adverse Reactions

Constipation, flatulence, abdominal pain, headache, nausea, myalgia, muscle spasms, joint swelling, diarrhea, increased blood creatinine phosphokinase.

Drug Interactions

Increased risk of myopathy w/ cyclosporin, fibric acid derivatives or CYP450 3A4 inhibitors. Increase plasma conc of digoxin. Decreased plasma conc w/ antacids containing Mg & Al.
