Cefazolin Na
Indications/Uses
Resp tract, skin, soft tissue, post-op, GIT, GUT infections. Bacteraemia, septicaemia, endocarditis, osteomyelitis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
IV infusion or slow IV Mild to moderate bacterial infections 1.5-2 g/day in 2-3 divided doses. Severe bacterial infections 3-4 g/day in 2-3 divided doses.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity.
Special Precautions
Penicillin-allergic patients. Impaired renal function. Patients receiving potent diuretics & nephrotoxic antibiotics.
Adverse Reactions
Diarrhea, hypersensitivity, eosinophilia, genital & oral candidiasis, phlebitis. Rarely, pseudomembranous colitis, anaphylaxis, neutropenia, thrombocytopenia, leucopenia.
Drug Interactions
Bacteriostatic antibiotics may reduce cephalosporin effectiveness. Probenecid may increase & prolong cephalosporin plasma levels & toxicity.
