Ceftazidime pentahydrate
Indications/Uses
Septicemia, meningitis, infection of lower resp tract, skin & soft tissue, urinary tract, bone & joint infections associated w/ haemo- & peritoneal dialysis & continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult
0.5 g 8-12 hrly.
Severe infections
Increase dose up to 9 g daily.
Childn
30-50 mg/kg 8-12 hrly.
Severe infections
Up to 6 g daily.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins.
Special Precautions
Hypersensitivity to penicillins. Renal impairment.
Adverse Reactions
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea; phlebitis, thrombophlebitis at inj site. Very rarely, hypersensitivity reactions.
