Bismuth subsalicylate
Indications/Uses
Tab: Peptic ulcer, abdominal cramps, nausea, indigestion & control of diarrhea including Traveller's diarrhea. Susp: Symptomatic treatment of mild, non-specific diarrhea, control of Traveler's diarrhea. As part of a multidrug regimen for H. pylori eradication to reduce risk of duodenal ulcer recurrence.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Tab Adult 1 tab. May be repeated every ½ to 1 hr if needed. Childn 9-12 yr ½ tab. May be repeated every ½ to 1 hr if needed. Max: 8 doses/day. Susp Adult & childn >12 yr 30 mL. Repeat every 30 min to 1 hr as needed. Childn 9-11 yr 15 mL. Repeat every 30 min to 1 hr as needed, 6-8 yr 10 mL. Repeat every 30 min to 1 hr as needed, 3-5 yr 5 mL. Repeat every 30 min to 1 hr as needed. Max: 8 doses/day. Use not >2 days.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to salicylate or aspirin.
Special Precautions
Renal disorder. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn.
Adverse Reactions
Dark stools & tongue, GI disturbances, hypersensitivity reactions.
Drug Interactions
May reduce GI absorption of tetracyclines.
