Brimonidine tartrate
Indications/Uses
Lowering of IOP in patients w/ open-angle glaucoma or ocular HTN.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Alphagan 1 drop in the affected eye(s) bid. An additional drop in the afternoon can be added for patients w/ IOP peaks in the afternoon or need additional IOP control. Alphagan P 1 drop in the affected eye(s) tid approx 8 hr apart.
Contraindications
Patients on MAOI therapy.
Special Precautions
Severe CV disease; hepatic or renal impairment; depression, cerebral or coronary insufficiency, Raynaud's phenomenon, orthostatic hypotension or thromboangiitis obliterans. Remove contact lenses prior to application & reinsert ≥15 min after. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn.
Adverse Reactions
Oral dryness, burning & stinging, headache, blurring, foreign body sensation, fatigue, drowsiness, conjunctival follicles; ocular allergic reactions, hyperemia & pruritus.
Drug Interactions
Potentiating effect w/ CNS depressants (alcohol, barbiturates, opiates, sedatives or anesth), α-agonists, β-blockers (ophth & systemic), antihypertensives &/or cardiac glycosides. TCAs.
