Na bicarbonate 1.76 g, anhydrous citric acid 0.72 g, anhydrous Na citrate 0.63 g, tartaric acid 0.89 g
Indications/Uses
Systemic & urinary alkalization where indicated in the relief of symptoms associated w/ UTI.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 1-2 sachets to a glass of cool water qds. Do not take for >5 days unless advised by physician.
Contraindications
Renal failure or hypernatremia; in conjunction w/ hexamine mandelate or hexamine hippurate therapy; concomitant use of urinary alkalinisers & quinolone antibiotics.
Special Precautions
Patients on a low Na diet. Cardiac failure, HTN, impaired renal function, peripheral & pulmonary oedema & preeclampsia. Periodically evaluate laboratory determinations during therapy. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn <12 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Mild laxative effect. Systemic alkalosis &/or hypernatremia (prolonged or excessive use).
Drug Interactions
Decreased therapeutic effect of chlorpropamide, lithium, salicylates & tetracyclines. Increase therapeutic effect of amphetamines & ephedrine/pseudoephedrine. May result in systemic alkalosis w/ antacids. May promote the development of Ca stones & hypernatremia w/ antacids. Increased Al absorption w/ antacids. Reduced solubility of ciprofloxacin, norfloxacin or ofloxacin in the urine. Additive effect w/ laxatives.
