Indications/Uses
Acute bacterial skin & skin structure infections (ABSSSI) caused by susceptible isolates of gm +ve microorganisms [Staph aureus (including methicillin-resistant & -susceptible isolates), Strep pyogenes, Strep agalactiae, Strep anginosus group (including Strep anginosus, Strep intermedius & Strep constellatus) & Enterococcus faecalis].

Dosage/Direction for Use
ABSSSI Patient ≥18 yr Oral 200 mg once daily for 6 days. IV 200 mg once daily over 1 hr for 6 days.

Overdosage

Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity.

Special Precautions
Patients w/ neutropenia (neutrophil counts <1,000 cells/mm3). Consider Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea (CDAD) in all patients who present w/ diarrhea following antibiotic use; careful medical history as CDAD may occur >2 mth after antibacterial administration. Discontinue antibacterial use (not directed against Clostridium difficile) if CDAD is suspected or confirmed & institute appropriate measures (eg, fluid & electrolyte management, protein supplementation, antibacterial Clostridium difficile treatment & surgical evaluation) as clinically indicated. May increase risk of drug-resistant bacteria development if used in absence of a proven/strongly suspected bacterial infection or prophylaxis. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn <18 yr. Elderly ≥65 yr.

Nausea, headache, diarrhea, vomiting, dizziness.

Drug Interactions
May increase plasma conc of oral BCRP substrates; consider possible treatment interruption especially for BCRP substrates w/ narrow therapeutic index (eg, MTX or topotecan); monitor AR related to the concomitantly administered BCRP substrates including rosuvastatin if co-administration cannot be avoided.
