Selegiline HCl
Indications/Uses
Parkinson's disease or symptomatic parkinsonism. May be used as monotherapy in early Parkinson's disease to delay the need for levodopa (w/ or w/o decarboxylase inhibitor). Adjunct to levodopa (w/ or w/o decarboxylase inhibitor).
Dosage/Direction for Use
10 mg daily or in 2 divided doses, either alone or adjunct to levodopa or levodopa/peripheral decarboxylase inhibitor.
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Special Precautions
Potentiation of levodopa effects: side effects might be emphasized particularly in very high doses. May cause involuntary movement &/or agitation when added to maximal doses of levodopa. Not to be used in pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Hypotension, nausea; confusion, psychosis.
Drug Interactions
Not to be given in conjunction w/ non-specific MAOIs.
