Indications and Dosage
Oral
Gastric ulcer
Adult: 100 mg tid, usually in the morning, evening and before bedtime.

Oral
NSAID-induced enteropathy, NSAID-induced gastropathy
Adult: 100 mg tid. Treatment recommendations may vary among individual products and between countries (refer to specific product guidelines).

Oral
Gastric mucosal lesions
Adult: In cases associated with acute gastritis or acute exacerbation of chronic gastritis: 100 mg tid.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Special Precautions
Elderly. Pregnancy and lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Significant: Anaphylactoid reactions, shock; thrombocytopenia, leucopenia; jaundice, hepatic dysfunction.
Gastrointestinal disorders: Nausea, vomiting, dry mouth, constipation, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, sensation of abdominal enlargement, belching, heartburn, taste abnormality.
Investigations: Increased AST, ALT, alkaline phosphatase or BUN levels.
Nervous system disorders: Dizziness, drowsiness, numbness.
Action
Description:
Mechanism of Action: Rebamipide increases the prostaglandin E2 in the gastric mucosa and elevates gastric mucous, gastric mucosal blood flow and secretion of gastric alkaline. Additionally, it stimulates gastric mucosal cell growth and decreases gastric mucosa injury.
Pharmacokinetics:
Absorption: Time to peak plasma concentration: 2 hours.
Distribution: Plasma protein binding: 98.4-98.6%.
Metabolism: Minimally metabolised in the liver.
Excretion: Via urine (approx 10% as unchanged drug). Elimination half-life: Approx 1.5 hours.
