Omeprazole
Indications/Uses
Acid-related diseases; duodenal ulcer, gastric ulcer, erosive reflux oesophagitis & Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Prevention of stress ulceration, acid aspiration syndrome.
Dosage/Direction for Use
20 mg daily. Patient w/ severe liver disease Should not require >20 mg daily.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Exclude presence of gastric malignancy before starting treatment. Use the lowest dose & shortest duration of therapy appropriate in Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhoea; bone fractures. Monitor Mg levels prior to initiation of therapy & periodically. Concomitant use w/ methotrexate. Not to be given during pregnancy & lactation. Childn.
Adverse Reactions
Nausea, diarrhoea, constipation, flatulence, abdominal colic, paresthesia, dizziness & headache. Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhoea; fractures.
Drug Interactions
Delayed elimination of diazepam, phenytoin, warfarin. May elevate & prolong serum levels of methotrexate &/or its metabolite hydroxymethotrexate.
