Indications/Uses
Prevention & treatment of candidal infections of the oral cavity & esophagus for intestinal candidiasis & protection against candidal overgrowth during antimicrobial or corticosteroid therapy.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn 1 mL qds drop into mouth, swish throughout the mouth for as long as possible, gargle & swallow. Infant 1 mL qds drop into the side of the mouth & swallow. Prophylaxis Newborn 1 mL once daily, may be given by dropper directly into the mouth.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Hold or swish throughout the mouth for some time before swallowing.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Discontinue use if irritation or sensitization occurs.
Special Precautions
No appreciable activity against bacteria, protozoa or viruses. Patients w/ full or partial dentures who have symptomatic oral candidiasis must soak their dentures nightly in reconstituted nystatin for oral susp. Pregnancy & lactation. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Occasionally, diarrhea, GI distress, nausea & vomiting in large doses.

Exemptions granted for limited sale and supply without prescription (with effect from 1 April 2015):
As an oral liquid preparation containing not more than 100,000 units per mL
Indication: Treatment of oral candidiasis
Maximum daily dose: Infants and children 6 months and older: 400,000 units
Adults: 2.4 million units
Maximum supply: 2 weeks
Minimum age: 6 months
