Ineffective in patients w/ primary pituitary or primary ovarian failure. Not a substitute for specific treatment of other causes of ovulatory failure eg, thyroid or adrenal disorders. Not 1st line treatment for low wt related amenorrhoea, w/ infertility, & has no value if a high FSH blood level is observed following an early menopause. Risk of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome; visual symptoms eg, spots or flashes (scintillating scotomata); hypertriglyceridemia; pregnancy wastage & birth anomalies; ovarian cancer. Increased chance of multiple & ectopic pregnancy. Exercise caution in patients w/ uterine fibroids. May affect ability to drive & use machines. Not indicated during pregnancy. Lactation.
