Metoprolol tartrate
Indications/Uses
Dosage/Direction for Use
HTN Initially 100 mg daily, can be increased by 100 mg/day at wkly intervals up to 400 mg taken as a single dose. Angina 50-100 mg bd or tds.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
AV-block or digitalis refractory heart failure. Pregnancy.
Special Precautions
May need therapy adjustment in labile, insulin-dependent diabetes. Report all β-blocker-use to anaesthetist. Patients w/ poor cardiac reserve may be necessary for digitalization. Care should be exercised w/ asthmatics.
Adverse Reactions
Mild & infrequent, include lassitude & sleep pattern disturbances.
Drug Interactions
Concomitant use w/ anesth, antidiabetics - oral or insulin, antihypertensives, diuretics, anti-inflammatory analgesics, NSAID, Ca channel blockers, cimetidine, clonidine diazoxide, digitalis glycosides, lidocaine, nicotine, phenothiazines, reserpine, sympathomimetics, timolol & xanthines.
