Miconazole nitrate
Indications/Uses
Skin & nail infections due to dermatophytes, yeasts & other fungi (eg, tinea capitis, corporis, manuum, pedis, barbae & cruris); tinea unguium or onychomycosis; pityriasis versicolor; skin & nail candidiasis; stomatitis angularis & otitis externa. Mycoses secondarily infected w/ gm +ve bacteria.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Skin infections Apply to the lesions bd. When lesions have disappeared (usually after 2-5 wk), continue treatment for 10 days to prevent relapse. Nail infections Apply to the infected nail once daily. Clip infected nail as shortly as possible. Cover nail w/ a non-perforated occlusive plastic bandage. Continue treatment after loosening the infected nail, until growth of a new nail has set in & definite cure can be observed.
Special Precautions
Avoid contact w/ the eyes. Contact a doctor if there is no improvement in 4 wk for athlete's foot or in 2 wk for jock itch. Not to be used extensively during pregnancy. Childn <2 yr.
