Atenolol 50 mg, nifedipine 20 mg (as sustained release)
Indications/Uses
Dosage/Direction for Use
HTN Adult 1 cap once-bd. Elderly Max: 1 cap daily. Angina Adult 1-2 cap daily. Patients may use additional nifedipine or prophylactic nitrate therapy. Elderly 1 cap once-bd.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Swallow whole, do not chew/crush. Avoid grapefruit juice.
Contraindications
2nd- or 3rd-degree AV block, cardiogenic shock, overt heart failure, pregnancy & lactation. Co-administration w/ cardiac depressants, unstable angina, severe aortic stenosis, w/in 1 mth of MI, asthma.
Special Precautions
Conduction defects or poor cardiac reserve, co-administration w/ class I antiarrhythmic agents or w/ anesth, patients w/ reversible obstructive airways disease, ischemic heart disease, diabetes, hepatic or renal impairment. Caution when shifting patients from clonidine.
Adverse Reactions
Headache, flushing, fatigue, dizziness, oedema, dry eyes, skin rash, oedema, gingival hyperplasia, gynaecomastia.
Drug Interactions
Cimetidine, quinidine, rifampicin, digoxin, cardiodepressants, grapefruit juice.
