Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to betamethasone dipropionate or other corticosteroids. Most viral skin infections (eg, vaccinia, varicella & Herpes simplex) also TB & acne rosacea.
Discontinue use if irritation or sensitivity develops. Applying to extensive surface area or under occlusive dressing. Not suitable for ophth use. Consider referral to an ophthalmologist for evaluation if patient presents w/ symptoms (eg, blurred vision or other visual disturbances). Pregnancy & lactation. Paed patients; may cause growth retardation as systemic absorption can occur in topical administration.
Exemptions granted for limited sale and supply without prescription (with effect from 31 March 2016):
As a topical preparation (as valerate or dipropionate salt) as a single agent not exceeding 0.1%
Indication: Symptomatic relief of inflammatory skin or scalp disorders such as dermatitis and eczema
Maximum daily dose: Apply to affected areas twice daily
Maximum supply: 15 g for cream/ointment/gel; 30 ml for topical solution
Minimum age: 18 years
