Indications/Uses
Bronchodilator for maintenance of bronchospasm associated w/ COPD including chronic bronchitis & emphysema. Acute bronchospasm associated w/ COPD including chronic bronchitis & asthma in combination w/ inhaled β-agonists.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult (including elderly) & adolescent >12 yr Maintenance 2 mL (40 drops) tds-qds. Acute attacks 2 ml (40 drops), repeat administration until the patient is stable. Childn 6-12 yr Maintenance 1 mL (20 drops) tds-qds. Acute attacks 1 mL (20 drops), repeat administration until the patient is stable, <6 yr Maintenance 0.4-1 mL (8-20 drops) tds-qds. Acute attacks 0.4-1 mL (8-20 drops), repeat administration until the patient is stable.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to atropine or its derivatives.
Special Precautions
Immediate hypersensitivity reactions may occur. Daily doses >2 mg in adults & adolescents >12 yr; >1 mg in childn ≤12 yr. Immediately discontinue use if paradoxical bronchospasm occurs. Patients predisposed to narrow-angle glaucoma; protect eyes during administration. Possible ocular complications (eg, mydriasis, increased IOP, narrow-angle glaucoma & eye pain); do not allow soln or mist to enter into the eyes. Patients w/ pre-existing urinary outflow tract obstruction (eg, prostatic hyperplasia or bladder-neck obstruction); cystic fibrosis. Not to be administered simultaneously w/ diNa cromoglycate nebuliser soln. Contains benzalkonium Cl; may cause wheezing & breathing difficulties; increased risk of AR in patients w/ asthma. Possible dizziness, accommodation disorder, mydriasis & blurred vision; observe caution when driving a car or operating machinery. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Headache, throat irritation, cough, dry mouth, GI motility disorders (including constipation, diarrhoea & vomiting), nausea & dizziness.
Drug Interactions
Not recommended for chronic co-administration w/ other anticholinergics. Bronchodilatory effect may be intensified by β-adrenergics & xanthine prep. Precipitation may occur in simultaneous administration w/ diNa cromoglycate nebuliser soln. Simultaneous administration w/ β-mimetics may increase risk of acute glaucoma in patients w/ narrow-angle glaucoma history.
