Anastrozole
Indications/Uses
Advanced breast cancer in postmenopausal women w/ hormone receptor positive or hormone receptor unknown locally advanced or metastatic breast cancer.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult including elderly 1 tab once daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Co-administration w/ oestrogen-containing therapies. Concurrent tamoxifen therapy. Severe renal impairment (CrCl <20 mL/min). Moderate or severe hepatic disease. Pregnancy & lactation. Premenopausal women.
Special Precautions
Biochemically define menopausal status if in doubt. Increased risk of fractures. Assess bone mineral density in women w/ osteoporosis or at risk of osteoporosis prior to & at regular intervals thereafter. Galactose intolerance, Lapp lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption. Not to be used w/ LHRH analogues. Not recommended in childn.
Adverse Reactions
Hot flushes; asthenia; arthralgia, arthritis; headache; nausea; rash. Vag dryness/bleeding; alopecia, allergic reactions; diarrhoea, vomiting; somnolence, carpal tunnel syndrome, sensory disturbances; increased alkaline phosphatase, alanine aminotransferase & aspartate aminotransferase; anorexia, hypercholesterolaemia, bone pain, myalgia.
Drug Interactions
Reduced plasma conc w/ tamoxifen. Diminished pharmacological action by oestrogen-containing therapies.
