Indications/Uses
Hypovolemic shock; adjunct in hemodialysis & cardiopulmonary bypass procedures. 5%: Severe hypoalbuminemia. 20% & 25%: Adult resp distress syndrome; major injury or surgery resulting in increased albumin loss or inadequate synthesis; acute nephrosis not responding to cyclophosphamide or steroid therapy; acute liver failure or ascites. In conjunction w/ exchange transfusion in the treatment of neonatal hyperbilirubinemia.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Individualised dosing. Adult 5% Initial infusion of 500 mL. 20% & 25% Initial infusion of 100 mL. Childn ¼-½ adult dose or 0.6-1 g/kg.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Severe anemia or cardiac failure.
Special Precautions
Patients w/ low cardiac reserve & marked dehydration. Monitor for signs of increased venous pressure. Pregnancy. Childn.
Adverse Reactions
Fever & chills; rash, nausea, vomiting, tachycardia & hypotension; vascular overload.
