Azithromycin dihydrate
Indications/Uses
Upper resp tract infections including pharyngitis, tonsillitis, sinusitis, otitis media, lower resp tract infections including bronchitis, pneumonia; skin & soft tissue infections. Uncomplicated genital infections due to Chlamydia trachomatis, uncomplicated gonorrhea from STD. Prophylaxis in at-risk patients unable to take penicillins.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Upper resp tract infections including sinusitis, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, otitis media & lower resp tract infections including bronchitis, pneumonia, skin & soft tissue infections Adult 500 mg once daily for 3 days. STD caused by C. trachomatis 1,000 mg as single dose. Uncomplicated gonorrhea 2,000 mg as single dose.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach: Take 1 hr before or 2 hr after meals.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Caution when in concomitant use w/ digoxin & cyclosporin. Hepatic & severe renal impairment. Pregnancy.
Adverse Reactions
Nausea, abdominal discomfort, vomiting, flatulence & diarrhea; allergic reactions eg, rash.
Drug Interactions
Reduced absorption w/ antacid or food. Increases plasma conc of digoxin & cyclosporin.
