Pain IV 1 mg every 3-4 hr as necessary. Effective dosage range: 0.5-2 mg repeated every 3-4 hr depending on the severity of pain.
IM 2 mg in patients who will be able to remain recumbent, in the event drowsiness or dizziness occurs, repeated every 3-4 hr as necessary. Effective dosage range: 1-4 mg repeated every 3-4 hr depending on the severity of pain. Max of single dose >4 mg. Preop, preanesth medication 2 mg IM, administered 60-90 min before surgery.
Balanced anesth 2 mg IV shortly before induction &/or 0.5-1 mg IV in increments during anesth. The increment may be higher, up to 0.06 mg/kg (4 mg/70 kg), depending on previous sedative, analgesic & hypnotic drugs administered.
Labor & delivery Initially 1 or 2 mg IM or IV in mothers w/ fetuses of 37 wk gestation or beyond & w/o signs of fetal distress. Do not repeat dose in less than 4 hr nor administered less than 4 hr prior to the anticipated delivery.
