Paracetamol
Indications/Uses
Mild to moderate pain & alleviation of fever.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Tab Adult 1 tab tid-qid. Childn 6-12 yr ½ tab tid-qid. Oral susp Childn 6-12 yr 250-500 mg every 4-6 hr, 1-5 yr 120-250 mg every 4-6 hr. Max: Up to 4 doses in 24 hr. Oral drops Childn 1-2 yr 1.2-1.8 mL every 4-6 hr, 6-12 mth 0.6-1.2 mL every 4-6 hr, infant <6 mth 0.3-0.6 mL every 4-6 hr.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Special Precautions
Patients w/ alcohol dependence. Impaired kidney or liver function. Oral anticoagulants.
Adverse Reactions
Thrombocytopenia, leukopenia, pancytopenia, neutropenia & agranulocytosis. Skin rashes & other hypersensitivity reactions.
Drug Interactions
Increased risk of toxicity w/ other hepatotoxic drugs or drugs that induce liver microsomal enzymes. Accelerated absorption w/ metoclopramide. Affected excretion & altered plasma conc w/ probenecid. Reduced absorption w/ cholestyramine (if given w/in 1 hr of administration). May potentiate effects of oral anticoagulants.
