Indications/Uses
Dissolution of pure cholesterol gallstones.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Contraindications
Complete atresia of bile duct, severe liver disease, radio-opaque calcified gallstones, nonfunctional gall bladder, acute cholecystitis.
Special Precautions
Severe pancreatic disease, peptic ulcer, gallstones in bile duct. Monitor serum hepatic enzyme levels periodically during therapy. Perform hepatic function test if necessary. Pregnancy. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Diarrhea, nausea, vomiting; pruritus.
Drug Interactions
May potentiate the action of oral antidiabetic drugs eg, tolbutamide. Decreased absorption w/ cholestyramine, colestipol, charcoal & Al-containing antacids. Estrogen-containing OCs & blood cholesterol-lowering agents eg, clofibrate.
