Indications/Uses
Functional symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Do not crush/chew.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. History of orthostatic hypotension. Severe hepatic insufficiency.
Special Precautions
Not recommended in patients scheduled for cataract or glaucoma surgery. Orthostatic hypotension. Examine patient to exclude presence of other conditions producing similar symptoms as benign prostatic hyperplasia prior to therapy. Perform digital rectal exam & determine PSA prior to treatment & regularly afterwards. Intraoperative floppy iris syndrome. Not to be given in combination w/ strong CYP3A4 inhibitors in patients w/ poor metaboliser CYP2D6 phenotype. Combination w/ strong & moderate CYP3A4 inhibitors. Not to be taken by patients w/ galactose intolerance, Lapp lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption. May affect ability to drive & use machines. Severe renal impairment (CrCl <10 mL/min). Not indicated for women. Childn <18 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Dizziness; ejaculation disorders including retrograde ejaculation & ejaculation failure.
Drug Interactions
Increased plasma levels w/ cimetidine & lowered plasma levels w/ furosemide. Elimination rate may be increased w/ diclofenac & warfarin. Increased exposure w/ strong CYP3A4 inhibitors. Increased AUC & Cmax w/ ketoconazole; paroxetine. Risk of enhanced hypotensive effect w/ drugs reducing BP including anaesth agents & other α1-adrenoreceptor antagonists.
